Course Description

The Brain and Laser/Light therapy:

This program will be focused on laser treatment for Concussion and Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) and taught by Valerie Krossin, BSN and Timothy Wakefield, DC, DACBSP, CSCS (retired), CCST, CPCO. Photobiomodulation Therapy (PBMT) is the research term for light therapy. PBMT research is rapidly expanding. PBMT research is a broad term and includes all classes of lasers and LED’s, therefore when choosing what PMBT device to use on a patient can be very challenging. When treating an area with PBMT the most important thing is to reach the target, with a therapeutic dose, to receive a clinical result. Not all light therapy is created the same.

We will be discussing:
  • Concussion vs Traumatic Brain Injury
  • Therapeutic penetration of light.
  • Trans-cranial penetration of light.
  • Laser and Brain research.
  • Class IV vs Class IIIb lasers vs LED.
  • Baseline testing to measure treatment effectiveness.
  • Laser treatment techniques.
  • Establishing laser specific protocols.

This will be a fun and interactive program to support you in your clinical application of laser/light therapy. We look forward to an exciting time together.
